Innovative Approaches to Coal Mining Discussed
Publication date: 18.11.2025 23:29:47A meeting was held with specialists from “Uzbekcoal” JSC and representatives of the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (NUST MISIS), Olmaliq branch. The event brought together company specialists, university professors, and students. The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce students to coal mining processes, modern equipment and technologies used in the mines, and issues requiring scientific approaches.
At the beginning of the meeting, participants were provided with information on the history of coal mining, types of coal produced, their calorific values, additional useful minerals found in the mines, and the technical equipment used in production.
During the discussion, university representatives raised several questions and suggestions. In particular, the issue of efficient use of limestone, a by-product encountered in coal mining, was highlighted. Currently, this material is being dumped in waste heaps. It was suggested to study limestone layers scientifically, store the extracted material separately, and explore possible cooperation with potential buyers.
The meeting also addressed natural and infrastructural conditions of the mining area, including the proximity of reservoirs, railways, and roads, as well as the impact of river flows on geological layers. External and internal spoil heaps were also discussed, noting the potential risks associated with their increased volume. It was emphasized that delivering certain rock types to interested organizations based on market demand could enhance the economic efficiency of the mine.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to strengthen cooperation by reviewing key issues together on a weekly basis and developing a mutually agreed work schedule.
