On June 13 this year, the city of Angren will celebrate a significant milestone – the 80th anniversary of its foundation. These days, the city is filled with a festive spirit. Streets and parks are being beautified, while work collectives, educational institutions, cultural centers and local communities are actively preparing for the anniversary celebrations.
This is no coincidence. Angren is not an ordinary city. It is a city built through hard work, strengthened by courage, and created by the calloused hands of miners.
The history of Angren is inseparably linked to its greatest natural treasure – coal. It was this valuable resource that attracted geologists, builders and miners to the area. As early as 1940, nearly 6,000 people were involved in developing the Angren coal basin. They not only opened new mines but also laid the foundations of a future city.
On June 13, 1946, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR, the workers' settlement of “Angrenshakhtastroy” was granted city status. Thus, a new industrial center – Angren – appeared on the map of Uzbekistan.
Eighty years have passed since then. What was once a small mining settlement has grown into one of the country's most important industrial centers. Its development story is closely intertwined with the destinies, labor and aspirations of thousands of people.
No story about Angren would be complete without recognizing the contribution of miners, particularly the team of JSC “Uzbekcoal”. The city’s past, present and future are closely connected with the coal industry. The dedicated work of miners, who make a significant contribution to the country's energy security, remains a solid foundation for Angren’s continued development.
As part of the preparations for the anniversary, Angren Mayor Alisher Raimov met with journalists and bloggers. During the open and friendly dialogue, participants discussed the city’s modern appearance, ongoing development projects, the significance of the anniversary events, and ways to bring these celebrations closer to the wider public.
As emphasized during the meeting, the 80th anniversary is more than just a date. It is a tribute to the city's history, its hardworking people, and the generations whose dedication helped build modern Angren. Therefore, special attention is being given to ensuring that the anniversary events are meaningful, memorable and inspiring.
Ne’mat Dushaev, Head of the Information Service of JSC “Uzbekcoal”, also participated in the meeting. He encouraged media representatives and bloggers to actively cover the anniversary celebrations and to highlight Angren’s history, the work of miners, the city’s industrial achievements, and its modern transformation. He also presented a number of proposals and recommendations for promoting the jubilee events.
Angren is a city of miners and hardworking people. A city of opportunities. A city of youth. A city of the future.
Eighty years may not seem long in the course of history. Yet during this relatively short period, Angren has become a city that embodies the labor, courage and dreams of entire generations. That is why its anniversary is an important occasion not only for the people of Angren, but for the whole country.
Happy 80th Anniversary, dear Angren!
