In Angren’s coal industry, the work of women holds a special place. At the “Railway transport” branch of JSC “Uzbekcoal” one of the company’s major transport divisions, women are successfully employed in a wide range of positions. They work as engineers, department heads, technical specialists, dispatchers, nurses, accountants, economists, storekeepers, clerks, forewomen, crane operators, and station attendants. If all women’s professions in the coal industry were listed, one would quickly run out of fingers to count them.
Today, nearly a thousand women are employed across the structural units of “Uzbekcoal” At the “Railway transport” branch, out of 1,315 employees, 205 are women. Many of them have decades of experience in the company. According to the head of the HR department, Naima Djuraeva, although working conditions have significantly improved, women’s responsibility and dedication to their work remain at a high level.
In the past, women performed very physically demanding jobs: they mined coal in shafts, pushed mine carts, sorted coal, worked on lathes and milling machines, and even repaired mining equipment. On the railway, they cleaned tracks, carried sleepers and stones, and laid rails.
Today, women are mainly engaged in technical, economic, and managerial roles. Engineers, estimators, economists, and department heads efficiently manage financial and accounting processes. Train dispatchers monitor the movement of trains, the condition of locomotives, and fuel consumption, while station attendants ensure the smooth operation of railway services.
In many units, women operate cranes, work in laboratories, and carry out technical inspections. Their expertise is highly valued by weight masters, cargo inspectors, crane operators, and chemical analysis laboratory staff. Central warehouses and occupational safety units are also managed by women, whose skills ensure the efficiency of all processes.
Administrative and household complexes in the coal industry largely rely on women as well. Bathhouse attendants, laundry operators, and cleaners maintain sanitation and order, creating a comfortable working environment for all employees.
The “Railway transport” branch team is large, friendly, and cohesive. Branch director Yuri Akimov and male colleagues highly respect the work of women. Their responsibility, dedication, and professionalism are essential to the stable operation of the company. The labor of women at “Railway Transport” is a shining example of courage and true devotion to their profession.
